Event Calendar for July, 2008

Streetlights, Parks, Community Harvest and more . . .

A few random tidbits from the last SW District Council meeting:

1.  Seattle City Light is the place to call to report flickering or burned out streetlights.  Please be sure to include the pole number (located 6-15 above the ground) and the nearest address when calling 206.684.7056 or online at http://seattle.gov/light/streetlight

2.  Ercolini Park (located at 48th Ave SW and SW Alaska St) will have an official ribbon cutting celebration on Saturday, July 12th from 10am-1pm.  Balloons and cupcakes provided.

3.  Community Harvest of Southwest Seattle is looking for volunteers to pick fruit during the summer harvest .  Also, if you have a tree to be harvested and are willing to donate the fruit (to be used at West Seattle and White Center Food Banks, senior center and schools) please contact organizers at www.gleanit.org, info@gleanit.org or 206.762.0604.

4.  Clean and Green Event - Residents of West Seattle are needed to assist in a massive effort to clean up the area from Walking on Logs to the light at 35th & Fauntleroy.  We will be working with SDOT and other departments to rid the area of growth, litter and debris.  If you are interested in volunteering at this event for any 2-hour shift on Saturday, September 13th between 9am-3pm please contact Nancy Driver at ndriver@quidnunc.net.

5.  Summer Fest is coming . . . July 11, 12 and 13!  See you there!

JuNO Membership Meeting - July 8th at 6:30pm

Our next JuNO meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 8th at 6:30pm at Ginomai (corner of 42nd and Genesee).  Our agenda includes a presentation by CORA (Concil for Residential Architects) concerning townhouse development and the proposed revisions to the multifamily code and Blue Star developers will present the new design rendering of Fauntleroy Place (Whole Foods and Hancock Fabrics).

We will also have very brief updates on some of the other projects happening in the neighborhood and opportunities for volunteer involvement.

JuNO is looking for leadership . . . if you have any interest in serving on our board, we would love to hear from you!  This is a great opportunity to meet neighbors, learn more about your community and give back!

I look forward to seeing you all Tuesday.

Calling All Volunteers - March in the Hi-Yu Parade

Volunteers - STRUT YOUR STUFF!
Calling all volunteers who live or work in West Seattle – you deserve some recognition and fun!

If you’re not already in the West Seattle Grand Parade on July 19th during the Hi-Yu Festival, you are hereby invited to frolic/march with us. Why the parade?  Just because! (Haven’t you always wanted to be in a parade?)

We’re not organized, scheduled or in any way coherent for this event, just like your average volunteer activity.  The one thing that is firm:
If you show up decorated in anything that remotely resembles your volunteer activity, we will buy you a beer or soda at West 5 after the parade.  Silliness and giant leaps of imagination are encouraged, have fun with your topic.  Afterwards, you’ll be trying to explain yourself - networking at its finest, eh?

No need to RSVP or pre-register, though we’d like to hear from you, so if you think you might be interested drop us a line at volunteermarchers@gmail.comIf you decide at the last minute you can come along, just show up and join the Volunteers in West Seattle Grand Parade Marching Unit for the recognition you so greatly deserve. No meetings will be held along the parade route, in case you were wondering.

Meeting place and details to come; watch morganjunction.org, and we’ll e-mail you updates if you RSVP to us at the email above. Just save the morning of Saturday, July 19th and get that outfit ready now!

Your kids are welcome to be in the parade with you, consider a wagon or stroller for the wee ones.

No motorized things; we will have a Mini-Cooper already in the parade to carry our sign and play snappy music.

Don’t bring candy to toss, parade rules say no to that.
Cool costume = West 5 ticket
Questions?  Cindi Barker is making up the rules, so contact her at 206-933-6968 before July 2 or after July 12.Let us know about your interest at volunteermarchers@gmail.com

Info will also be posted at www.morganjuction.org
