JuNO Membership Meeting - July 8th at 6:30pm

Our next JuNO meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 8th at 6:30pm at Ginomai (corner of 42nd and Genesee).  Our agenda includes a presentation by CORA (Concil for Residential Architects) concerning townhouse development and the proposed revisions to the multifamily code and Blue Star developers will present the new design rendering of Fauntleroy Place (Whole Foods and Hancock Fabrics).

We will also have very brief updates on some of the other projects happening in the neighborhood and opportunities for volunteer involvement.

JuNO is looking for leadership . . . if you have any interest in serving on our board, we would love to hear from you!  This is a great opportunity to meet neighbors, learn more about your community and give back!

I look forward to seeing you all Tuesday.

May 13th Meeting

A reminder that our meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 13th from 6:30-8pm at Ginomai (corner of 42nd and Genesee in the old West Seattle Christian Church School).

Blue Star will be present to update us on the construction of the approved Whole Foods project and how it will impact our neighborhood.  They will also give us some new information on the proposed project in the ex-Huling Showroom property.

Conner Homes will then present information on the proposed project on California/Alaska/42nd that went to design review in April.  We have sent them comments and suggestions based onthe presentation, and they are open to further discussion.

Our website, www.wsjuno.com, is temporarily down.  The site was hacked so we are in the process of working with our provider to restore the information.  I hope to report on Tuesday that it is up again - stay tuned.

Also, we will be having a garage sale this Saturday from 9-3pm in front of 4542 41st Ave SW.  Proceeds from the garage sale will go towards our $300 501c3 application fee and process.  If you have any items you would like to donate to the garage sale to help us raise money, feel free to stop in on Saturday.  All unsold items will be given to a local charity.

I look forward to seeing you all soon!

Sincerely,

Erica Karlovits

President, JuNO

May Membership Meeting - What would you like to hear about?

Do you have a topic you would like to hear more about at our next meeting?  Please let us know.

March 11th JuNO Meeting - Development and Parking!

Two hot topics in the Junction will be the focus of our next meeting . . . .

Our next JuNO membership meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 11th at 6:30pm.  Our speakers will include Vlad Oustimovitch, former member of the Southwest Design Review Board, and Mary Catherine Snyder, Senior Transportation Planner of SDOT.

Vlad will help walk us through how community feedback is vital and influential in the design review process, especially given all the development projects proposed in the Junction.

Mary Catherine will talk with us about Residential Parking Zones and the start of a parking study to be conducted in the Junction this coming Summer.

The meeting will take place at the West Seattle Christian Church, corner of 42nd and Genesee, in the Ginomai Arts Building Community Room.  The arts building is actually the former WS Christian School building located @ 4401 42nd (across the street from the main church building).  A parking lot is located on the south side of the building.

NEW INFORMATION Added 2/8/08:

I have learned more information about the proposed Rapid Ride transit:

  • King County Council will be meeting in May to review recommendations from the Rapid Ride team.

  • Over 1000 questionaires have been sent in.  If you want to submit a comment directly to Metro, the best option is Jack Lattemann as the project coordinator.

  • The proposed West Seattle Rapid Ride would replace the local 54 bus.

  • The two options for routing in the Junction under consideration are:

  1. Follow the current 54 local route from California, left on edmonds, right on 44, right on Alaska.  This would enable all other connections on the corner of Alaska/California.  The Rapid Ride bus would not travel on California between Edmonds and Alaska.
  2. Travel down Edmonds, turn right onto Alaska.  This would require a mid block stop with a station, bulb outs for the stop, and would likely be near the mid block cross walk (In front of Elliott Bay Brewery).
  • The requested safety study for the possible midblock station/stop on California is not complete yet.  This is looking at pedestrian safety, and the impact on the Walk All Ways intersection on California/Alaska.
  • The start of the route is still under consideration for either Westwood Village or the Fauntleroy Ferry dock.
  • The Rapid Ride schedule is likely to have a bus every 15 minutes until 10:30pm and then every 30 minutes from 10:30pm until 1am.  The route would begin in September 2011.

JuNO would like to make a recommendation to Metro . . . . please give us your input.  The West Seattle Junction Association (business association) is in favor of having Rapid Ride follow the existing 54 route and not come down California with a mid block stop.  I am pasting the letter they sent in the comments.

PLEASE submit comments either directly to erica@wsjuno or as a comment to this posting by February 15th.  Thank you.
