NEW INFORMATION Added 2/8/08:
I have learned more information about the proposed Rapid Ride transit:
-
King County Council will be meeting in May to review recommendations from the Rapid Ride team.
-
Over 1000 questionaires have been sent in. If you want to submit a comment directly to Metro, the best option is Jack Lattemann as the project coordinator.
-
The proposed West Seattle Rapid Ride would replace the local 54 bus.
-
The two options for routing in the Junction under consideration are:
- Follow the current 54 local route from California, left on edmonds, right on 44, right on Alaska. This would enable all other connections on the corner of Alaska/California. The Rapid Ride bus would not travel on California between Edmonds and Alaska.
- Travel down Edmonds, turn right onto Alaska. This would require a mid block stop with a station, bulb outs for the stop, and would likely be near the mid block cross walk (In front of Elliott Bay Brewery).
- The requested safety study for the possible midblock station/stop on California is not complete yet. This is looking at pedestrian safety, and the impact on the Walk All Ways intersection on California/Alaska.
- The start of the route is still under consideration for either Westwood Village or the Fauntleroy Ferry dock.
- The Rapid Ride schedule is likely to have a bus every 15 minutes until 10:30pm and then every 30 minutes from 10:30pm until 1am. The route would begin in September 2011.
JuNO would like to make a recommendation to Metro . . . . please give us your input. The West Seattle Junction Association (business association) is in favor of having Rapid Ride follow the existing 54 route and not come down California with a mid block stop. I am pasting the letter they sent in the comments.
PLEASE submit comments either directly to erica@wsjuno or as a comment to this posting by February 15th. Thank you.
