On Saturday, October 18th, from 10am-2pm we will host our third clean-up of our Junction Neighborhood.  The city will be providing us with all the tools and gear need . . . all we need is a groupd of volunteers to help!

Please email erica@wsjuno.com if you are available to help us clean our streets!  We hope to have at least 15 people join us.

Please join in helping to clean up the growth and garbage from Walking on Logs to 35th on Saturday, September 13th.

Volunteer shifts are for 2 hours beginning at 9am.  We would love to have a JuNO shift, so if you are available to assist please comment on this post ASAP with your time preference and name.  I will contact you soon with followup details.

The next design review for Fauntleroy Place/Whole Foods project is on Thursday, August 14th at 8pm at High Point Community Center.

Blue Star will be presenting a revised design - an earlier design was previewed at our last JuNO meeting.  I will be mmeting with Vlad tonight for a preview and will try to post my impressions here tonight.

Hope to see you all tomorrow.

Alley Vacation Petition

August 13th, 2008

42 and California Alley Petition

Attached is the petition that you may want to consider signing. If the developer is able to proceed with the alley vacation (closure for at least one year), many of our favorite
restaurants and business will be severely impacted. For example, Elliott Bay Brewery would not be able to receive deliveries essential for the beer brewing it does in the back of the restaurant (via direct pipes to the tanks).

Feel free to send this out to any West Seattle residents or friends. If you get signed petitions back to me by August
14th I would be happy to submit them.

More info is below.

Thanks.
Erica

A few random tidbits from the last SW District Council meeting:

1.  Seattle City Light is the place to call to report flickering or burned out streetlights.  Please be sure to include the pole number (located 6-15 above the ground) and the nearest address when calling 206.684.7056 or online at http://seattle.gov/light/streetlight

2.  Ercolini Park (located at 48th Ave SW and SW Alaska St) will have an official ribbon cutting celebration on Saturday, July 12th from 10am-1pm.  Balloons and cupcakes provided.

3.  Community Harvest of Southwest Seattle is looking for volunteers to pick fruit during the summer harvest .  Also, if you have a tree to be harvested and are willing to donate the fruit (to be used at West Seattle and White Center Food Banks, senior center and schools) please contact organizers at www.gleanit.org, info@gleanit.org or 206.762.0604.

4.  Clean and Green Event - Residents of West Seattle are needed to assist in a massive effort to clean up the area from Walking on Logs to the light at 35th & Fauntleroy.  We will be working with SDOT and other departments to rid the area of growth, litter and debris.  If you are interested in volunteering at this event for any 2-hour shift on Saturday, September 13th between 9am-3pm please contact Nancy Driver at ndriver@quidnunc.net.

5.  Summer Fest is coming . . . July 11, 12 and 13!  See you there!

Our next JuNO meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 8th at 6:30pm at Ginomai (corner of 42nd and Genesee).  Our agenda includes a presentation by CORA (Concil for Residential Architects) concerning townhouse development and the proposed revisions to the multifamily code and Blue Star developers will present the new design rendering of Fauntleroy Place (Whole Foods and Hancock Fabrics).

We will also have very brief updates on some of the other projects happening in the neighborhood and opportunities for volunteer involvement.

JuNO is looking for leadership . . . if you have any interest in serving on our board, we would love to hear from you!  This is a great opportunity to meet neighbors, learn more about your community and give back!

I look forward to seeing you all Tuesday.

Volunteers - STRUT YOUR STUFF!
Calling all volunteers who live or work in West Seattle – you deserve some recognition and fun!

If you’re not already in the West Seattle Grand Parade on July 19th during the Hi-Yu Festival, you are hereby invited to frolic/march with us. Why the parade?  Just because! (Haven’t you always wanted to be in a parade?)

We’re not organized, scheduled or in any way coherent for this event, just like your average volunteer activity.  The one thing that is firm:
If you show up decorated in anything that remotely resembles your volunteer activity, we will buy you a beer or soda at West 5 after the parade.  Silliness and giant leaps of imagination are encouraged, have fun with your topic.  Afterwards, you’ll be trying to explain yourself - networking at its finest, eh?

No need to RSVP or pre-register, though we’d like to hear from you, so if you think you might be interested drop us a line at volunteermarchers@gmail.comIf you decide at the last minute you can come along, just show up and join the Volunteers in West Seattle Grand Parade Marching Unit for the recognition you so greatly deserve. No meetings will be held along the parade route, in case you were wondering.

Meeting place and details to come; watch morganjunction.org, and we’ll e-mail you updates if you RSVP to us at the email above. Just save the morning of Saturday, July 19th and get that outfit ready now!

Your kids are welcome to be in the parade with you, consider a wagon or stroller for the wee ones.

No motorized things; we will have a Mini-Cooper already in the parade to carry our sign and play snappy music.

Don’t bring candy to toss, parade rules say no to that.
Cool costume = West 5 ticket
Questions?  Cindi Barker is making up the rules, so contact her at 206-933-6968 before July 2 or after July 12.Let us know about your interest at volunteermarchers@gmail.com

Info will also be posted at www.morganjuction.org

May 29th at 6:30pm at the SW precinct community room will be the 2nd design review for the Conner Homes proposed project on 42nd/Alaska/California.

http://web1.seattle.gov/dpd/luib/Notice.aspx?BID=315&NID=8092

It is very important that residents attend this meeting to give further comments on the project.  This project will have a significant impact on our Junction and will set the tone for future development on our ‘main street’.

We will be hosting our 2nd Adopt-A-Street Cleanup on Saturday May 31st from 9am-1pm.

If you would like to volunteer for this event, please post a comment here or email kyle.mizell@gmail.com.

No experience necessary and all supplies are provided!

The West Seattle Blog has created this map of all the projects in the area.
